The Goethe-Institut cordially invites you to our new series “OPEN THURSDAY”, starting on March 30, 2017.
For the upcoming Thursdays the Goethe-Institut invites you to pass by after work, meet us, network and find out about our current activities. Every Thursday we will present a new motto, on March 30, 2017 we will start with the “Maus” project.
THE “MAUS TV”: LAUGHING AND LEARNING STORIES FOR CHILDREN
The German program “Die Sendung mit der Maus” (Maus TV) aired its first episode on March 7, 1971. At the time it was a completely new format both in concept and content. A television program for children? How unusual!
Learning stories explain the world, or at least parts of it. They are not primarily focused on conveying information, but rather on arousing children’s curiosity. Complicated processes are explained in pictures, even if “it is not at all easy to explain difficult things in simple ways”, as “Maus” moderator Christoph Biemann says.
The Goethe-Institut translated 24 episodes of “Die Sendung mit der Maus” into Arabic and produced a wide range of learning materials including the main character, the “Maus”, and its friends, the elephant and the duck, to use them for its educational work with refugees and marginalised Jordanians.
On our OPEN THURSDAY on March 30 you will have the chance to watch the “Maus TV” and discover our educational program.
