لو وفينغ زوجان مخلصان لبعضهما يضطران للفراق عندما يجري اعتقال لو وإرساله لمعسكر عمل باعتباره سجينا سياسيا زمن الثورة الثقافية. يرجع لو أخيرا للبيت بعد سنوات ليكتشف أن زوجته المحبوبة لم تعد تتذكره. يعيش لو غريبا ووحيدا قرب عائلته المحطمة ويقرر أن يبعث الروح في ماضيهما المشترك وأن يوقظ ذاكرة زوجته.
