“Ambulance” is a raw, first-person account of the last war in Gaza, July 2014. Mohamed Jabaly, a young man from Gaza City, joins an ambulance crew as war approaches. What is it like to grow up under constant threat? How can Mohamed find his place in a country under siege, where at times there seems to be no foreseeable future? We experience the war through Mohamed’s eyes as he comes of age among broken bodies, terrified families and the constant risk of sudden death. In response to the dark chaos of war, Mohamed learns to rely on his captain and crewmates, who in turn support Mohamed to make a film that expresses both the trauma and hope of the too-often invisible citizens of Gaza.
The film has won The Rookie Award, The Sun Bird Award for Best Documentary at Days of Cinema and the Golden FIPA as well as Jury Prize for Young Europeans at the International Festival of Audiovisual Programs .
It was screened at Sheffield/ Doc Fest, BFI Future Film Festival, BBC Arabic Film Festival and CPH-DOX in Denmark, North Cape Film Festival, Bergen International Film Festival, Jihlava International Film Festival, Nordic Film Days, Leeds International Film Festival and Braunschweig International Film Festival.

يروي الفيلم بصيغة المتكلم وبأسلوب خام أحداث الحرب الأخيرة في غزة في تموز 2014. ينضم محمد جبالي، وهو شاب من سكان مدينة غزة، إلى طاقم سيارة الإسعاف مع اقتراب الحرب. كيف يكون الحال عندما تكبر في ظل التهديد المستمر؟ كيف يمكن لمحمد أن يجد مكانه في بلد تحت الحصار حيث لا يلوح أي مستقبل في الأفق؟ نختبر الحرب من خلال عيون محمد وهو يكبر وسط الجثث والعائلات المرعوبة والخطر الدائم من الموت المفاجئ. ردّاً على ظلام الحرب وفوضاها، يتعلم محمد الاعتماد على قائد الفريق وزملائه في طاقم الإسعاف الذين بدورهم يقدمون الدعم له ليصنع فيلماً يُعبّر عن معاناة وآمال سكان غزة.

حاز الفيلم جائزة “Rookie Award” وجائزة طائر الشمس SunBird لأفضل فيلم وثائقي في أيام السينما وجائزتي فيبا الذهبية وجائزة لجنة التحكيم للشباب الأوروبيين في المهرجان الدولي للبرامج السمعية والبصرية. وقد تم عرض الفيلم أيضا في مهرجان شيفيلد للأفلام الوثائقية ومهرجان المستقبل للأفلامBFI ومهرجان بي بي سي للأفلام العربية و CPH-DOX في الدنمارك ومهرجان كيب الشمالية للأفلام ومهرجان بيرغن السينمائي الدولي ومهرجان جيهلافا السينمائي الدولي وأيام نورديك للأفلام ومهرجان ليدز السينمائي الدولي ومهرجان براونشفايغ السينمائي الدولي.
