Abstract:
Are there other ways to think about civil society when considering its role for democratization and progressive politics? Italian philosopher and political activist Antonio Gramsci’s reading of Marxism represents a creative, flexible and bold approach to address this issue. He proposed looking at civil society as an ‘ideological battleground’ where to engage in a new, daring political project of emancipation.
