Fausta padece La Teta Asustada, una rara enfermedad que se transmite por la leche ‎materna de mujeres que fueron violadas durante la gestación y la lactancia en la ‎época del terrorismo. Un terror atávico que se transmite de generación en generación ‎y que Fausta sufre en forma de hemorragias nasales en momentos de crisis.
La joven, además, guarda un secreto que no quiere revelar hasta que la súbita muerte ‎de su madre la obligará a encontrar una salida al laberinto, dentro y fuera de ella.‎

Fausta suffers from a rare disease called the “Milk of Sorrow”, which is transmitted ‎through the breast milk of pregnant women, who were abused or raped in times of ‎terrorism in Peru, during pregnancy. While living in constant fear and confusion due to ‎this disease, she must face the sudden death of her mother. Fausta chooses to take ‎drastic measures in order not to follow her mother’s footsteps.‎

The film was nominated for the Oscar’s Academy Awards in 2010 for Best Foreign ‎Language Film of the Year. It has won over 15 awards including: The FIPRESCI Prize ‎and Golden Berlin Bear for Competition at Berlin International Film Festival, Golden ‎Pre-Columbian Circle for Best Film at Bogota Film Festival, Golden Kikito for Latin Film ‎Competition – Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director at Gramado Film Festival, Best ‎Art Direction and Grand Coral – First Prize at Havana Film Festival, Best Actress, Best ‎Peruvian Film and CONACINE Award at Lima Latin American Film Festival and Acting ‎Award for Best Actress and Quebec Film Critics Award for Best Film at Montréal ‎Festival of New Cinema.‎

تعاني فاوستا من مرض نادر يسمى “حليب الأسى” الذي ينتقل عن طريق حليب النساء الحوامل اللواتي تعرضن ‏للتعذيب أو الاغتصاب في أوقات الارهاب في بيرو أثناء الحمل. بينما تعيش فاوستا في خوف وارتباك دائمين بسبب ‏هذا المرض، عليها مواجهة وفاة والدتها المفاجىء، لتختار اتخاذ تدابير جذرية لتجنب السير على خطى والدتها.‏
