A lot of fantastic music can be created using very basic musical elements. Anything from minimal groove-structures to complex polyrhythmic compositions often starts with small fragments put together in more or less methodic or even chaotic ways.
Here we will focus on small rhythmic figures, tonal patterns and harmonic sequences. In combination with a few concepts about variation, superimposition – “playing different things at the same time” – and condensation there is a lot of musical possiblities to discover. Surprising and verypowerful!
Björn Meyer is a Swedish bass player and a frequent collaborator with world-renowned artists. Besides performing with Sonic Groove Society, he can be heard withTunisian Oud master Anouar Brahem, Swedish crossover folk trio Bazar Blå, in collaborations with Don Li in Switzerland and as a solo artist. He worked many years with the Zen-Funk of Nik Bärtsch RONIN and teaches occasionally at the conservatories in Stockholm, Zurich, Bern and Lucerne.
Björn is also the co-founderof bazaar pool – a musicians-network and record label, offering a platform for collaborations with artists from all over the world sharing a common vision of traditions and development.
Participants should have some musical experience to be able to fully enjoy the workshop.
